If you’re curious to what is coconut butter, then hopefully this guide will be able to explain exactly what it is and what you’re able to use it for.
This is probably one of the simplest but tastiest healthy butters around. It is actually quite good for you as you get all the health benefits of eating a coconut product. I will briefly touch on some of the basics that you might want to know further on down the page.
As you could imagine this butter has a really strong coconut flavour and can be slightly crumbly. If you heat it up slightly it will help it should become a bit creamier. It also has plenty of uses that I mention a bit later on in this guide.
Making your own homemade version of this butter is actually incredibly easy, if you’re interested you should check out my recipe for coconut butter. All you will need is some coconut flakes or shredded coconut and a blender. Also a good jar to store it in will also be pretty handy. However, any container will do!
If you don’t feel like making it, then you can also buy it at any good specialist store. Just make sure you add it to your paleo diet shopping list so that you remember to make sure it’s stocked up. It is one of those ingredients I always forget to buy until I am completely out. I would check out the Thrive Market as they usually have it for a pretty good price on there.
The Health Benefits of Coconut Butter
As you could imagine being a coconut product this is full of health benefits and is a far superior choice to traditional butter.
Coconut butter is a fantastic source of iron, calcium, fibre and more. You will notice that the benefits are very similar to coconut oil (Basically the same). The main difference is that with this it has fibre in it and can help you with your digestive system. It also has less fat than the oil since it is made out of coconut flakes/shredded coconut.
It has been shown to help boost your metabolism in return this helps people with weight loss. It has also been shown to reduce your appetite reducing the amount you need to eat to stay full.
The health benefits of coconut butter are just one of the reasons to include this delicious condiment into your daily diet. You will find that you can use this in a lot of different dishes as a replacement for many unhealthy alternatives.
Coconut Butter Uses
When understanding what is coconut butter, knowing how you can use it in recipes and meals correctly is pretty important.
There are quite a few uses for coconut butter I will just go through the ones that I use the most.
This is an amazing replacement for normal butter on paleo friendly pancakes, paleo friendly bread or anything else that would usually have butter on it. When you go to spread this you will get a nice rich coconut spread that melts over your warm bread or pancakes. Totally worth giving this a try!
Using it in a healthy stir fry will turn your sauce into a rich creamy coconut sauce. This is perfect for anyone who loves both the feel & taste of coconut. I would only add this after you have cooked your vegetables and meat.
You can replace the coconut oil with this in a paleo friendly mayonnaise. You should get the same results but it might a bit richer in coconut flavour. This mayo turns out to be a great dipping sauce, condiment and anything else that mayo goes great with.
As you probably know being on the paleo diet really limits the amount of ingredients you can use to make a sauce creamy. The coconut butter is a great way of achieving this if you don’t have any coconut cream on hand. However, it is important to keep in mind this will impart a strong coconut flavour to your sauce.
This goes really well in a nice paleo friendly breakfast porridge. If you’re following my recipe, then just simply add a spoonful or two just before you remove it off the stove. This will create a rich creamy coconut porridge that will help brighten up your morning.
There are a lot more coconut butter uses that I have probably missed. If you have some that you would love to share, then feel free to let me know by leaving a comment at the bottom of this page.
Where can I Buy Coconut Butter
If you’re not really interested in making your own coconut butter, then you’re luckily able to buy it from a specialist shop. I personally haven’t seen this in any of the supermarkets that are near me so I unfortunately had to go to a specialist shop and pay a bit of a premium on it.
If you’re willing to buy online, then you can find it over at the Thrive Market. If you have never shopped at the Thrive Market they usually offer really good prices for lots of ingredients. It helps making shopping on the paleo diet a little bit easier.
I hope this article has helped you learn exactly what is coconut butter and some of the things you’re able to use it for. If you have your own personal experiences that you would love to share about this delicious butter then feel free to leave a comment below.
