Paleo-Friendly Pear and Blueberry Crisp

This paleo pear and blueberry crisp is a delicious fruity dessert that will please almost anyone.

Blueberry and Pear Crisp

The crunchy topping for this dish is incredibly easy to make and it matches the filling perfectly. The filling consists of blueberries, pears, and a little bit of mixed spice. It’s a flavor combination that will have you going back for seconds.

Depending on where you live in the world, this dish might be called crumble instead of crisp. For example, here in Australia, we call it crumble, but over in the United States, it’s referred to as a crisp.

A single batch of this crisp should feed roughly six people. However, it really depends on how hungry people are and if you’re serving it with anything extra.

Tweaking the Recipe

If you think you can improve on this recipe, then below are just a couple of examples of what you can do.

You can add some different spices into the topping and filling for a little more flavor. I currently use a combination of mixed spice and cinnamon, but something like nutmeg will be an excellent addition.

Pear and Blueberry Crisp without oats

Chopped nuts will be a great addition to the topping. Almonds, walnuts, or even hazelnuts will work very nicely in this dessert. I recommend picking your favorite nut and using that.

More fruit can be added into the filling for more flavor. Apples match nicely with both pear and blueberries, so it’s the ideal choice if you wanted to add more fruit.

Something such as a creamy coconut custard will go down a treat with this dessert. You will need to either make it from scratch or buy a paleo-friendly version from the supermarket.

Oven Baked Low Carb Pear and Blueberry Crisp

The leftovers of this dish are undoubtedly well worth keeping. You can store the leftovers in the fridge for a few days or in the freezer for a few months.

Personally, I love having this for breakfast the next day. It’s pretty good cold, so if you don’t have the time or equipment to reheat the leftovers, then don’t be afraid to eat it cold.

This recipe is a keeper! Very nice, fresh, light and simple paleo-friendly dessert! I added chopped walnuts to the topping to give it some crunch. I used pumpkin pie mixed spice and it goes perfectly with pears. Have this with a plop of vanilla ice cream and, wow! Looking forward to trying it for breakfast in the morning!
